Facebook clones Snapchat's face filters and ephemeral photo messages
Facebook's war on Snapchat is entering a new stage of hostilities.Starting today, Facebook will expand testing of a new camera in its main app that relies on the very same video and photo filters users of Snapchat enjoy.This includes masks that map to your face and full-frame effects that overlay over the scene.

Of course, those tricks pretty much make Snapchat what it is, and Facebook now has very similar ones in the heart of its app.While the test is just limited to Ireland, if Zuckerberg & Co. adopt the features widely, it'll mean that Facebook's 1.4 billion monthly users will be able do a lot of the things that used to make Snapchat unique.Facebook purchased its filter technology from MSQRD back in March, but so far, has only used it in Facebook Live with Rio Olympics and Halloween-themed masks.
Irish Facebook users first to test Snapchat-style filters
Facebook's Irish users are the first to test the social network's new Snapchat-style filters for the camera in its main app.The new effects include augmented reality masks, frames and reactive effects that adapt to your face and environment in real time.Users can either post their videos directly to their Facebook feed or share with certain friends through the Direct feature.
