as mentioned in On Thursday Facebook announced that it will start putting ads in the middle of publisher's videos, kind of like TV commercials. Facebook was already running this mid-roll ads on some live videos, and said Thursday that those efforts are expanding. Facebook offers to same ad split for mid-rolls in live videos, 55 percent to the publisher and 45 percent to Facebook. Facebook's timing in expanding the mid-roll ads for live videos is not coincidental. Facebook said that videos inside that app would not include ads, but it's easy to imagine this same type of mid-roll ad coming to a Facebook TV app down the line.

as mentioned in On Thursday, the company announced that it will let publishers show ad breaks in the middle of their prerecorded videos for the first time. These ad breaks are essentially mini-commercials that may run after a video has played for 20 seconds and must be at least two minutes apart. You can learn more about Facebook's ad break updates on its company blog. Facebook is letting publishers keep 55% of the money generated from these new ad breaks, and it's currently working with a "handful" of US publishers to test them in non-live videos. Facebook has said it won't show pre-roll ads before a video plays like YouTube does, and these ad breaks are the social network's first real effort to monetize video to date.

Facebook starts inserting ads in the middle of videos

Facebook is done with testing mid-roll video ads and is making it available to "eligible" publishers starting today through its Audience Network. Facebook cautions that Pages and profiles that violate its intellectual property or community standards may not be eligible for ad breaks. "A handful of partners" in the U.S. are participating in a beta program where ad breaks are inserted into uploaded or existing videos in their Facebook libraries. Afterwards, additional ad breaks can be used for every 5 minutes livestreamed. Additionally, the social media company is also expanding testing around monetizing live video.
