Sheriff's office to Irma evacuees: Stop sharing your address on Facebook

Sheriff's Office in South Carolina has issued an advisory asking evacuated citizens to stop sharing sensitive data about their homes on their Facebook posts in the interest of their home's security. Fellow citizens advised Beaufort Co. sheriffs which evacuated citizens have created public-facing messages which involve their home's exact address with a request to have friends mark on their property. AdvertisementBeaufort Co. sheriffs instead advise which citizens privately message or dial neighbors and friends directly to mark on their vacant homes instead. "Posting this data publicly provides would-be thieves, who may have remembered behind for the opportunity to burglarize, with a target," the advisory stated.
