A mysterious rocket icon has started appearing in people's Facebook apps – causing bafflement around the world. Facebook routinely tests new features with small groups of users, so it's not guaranteed that the 'Rocket Ship' feed will ever go fully live, TechCrunch reports. Hey I got the secret rocket icon on Facebook. TechCrunch says that the new News Feed is similar to one Facebook has been testing for some time – offering updates from people and news outlets users don't actually follow. Well, it appears that the rocket ship is a test-drive for an all-new kind of news feed – appearing either at the top or the bottom, depending if the user is on iOS or android .

In recent weeks, some users have started noticing a rocket-shaped icon in their Facebook mobile app. Most of the posts I'm seeing in the new feed are from pages (some of which I've liked), and some are from users that aren't my friends. However, I'm also seeing some posts that are relevant to my interests, so it might not be completely disassociated from my likes/friends. The icon, positioned right next to the main news feed icon, gives you a different type of news feed, one which displays popular posts from people and pages that you haven't befriended or liked.

Facebook has added a new icon to some people's home screen – and not explained why it is there. Clicking on the rocket appears to lead to an altered version of the news feed, but the traditional one still exists alongside it. The second news feed, activated by the rocket, appears to be more about people finding posts from pages that they don't currently like. The button is appearing for selected users on iOS and android at the bottom of the app's view. It was intended as a way of giving people an "easy way to explore new content they haven't connected with yet".(I'm based in Croatia, but there are also reports of users seeing the new icon in the UK.)
